Type Locality and Naming

It was named by the Compiler

Jingeng Sha (coordinator) Group for the Regional Stratigraphic Chart of Gansu Province in 1980. The naming section is located in the Kushui Gorge 8 km north-east-east of Shuiquan Township, Jingyuan County, Gansu Province.

Synonym: (苦水峡组)


Lithology and Thickness

Lower part is composed of an alternating layer of violet-red clay shale and grey-green shale. Middle part is violet-red clay shale. Upper part is alternating layers of violet-grey sandstone and clay shale, with a total thickness of 504 m.

Unconformably underlies the early Cretaceous Hekou Gr

Upper contact

It conformably overlies the middle Jurassic Xinhe Fm

Regional extent

The formation is distributed in the areas of Shandan, Sunan, Wuwei and Jingyuan Counties of Gansu Province.

Fossils

It yields conchostracans as represented by Euestheria Compiler

Jingeng Sha (coordinator); Ostracoda such as Darwinula sarytirmenensis, D. cf. magna, Metacypris caneiformis, Djungarica sp.; Chareae as represented by Aclistochara lufengensis, A. yunnanensis, A. nuguishanensis and Stellatochara sublavis, as well as Gastropoda fossils.
